Years 0-10 curriculum release dates announced

The complete Years 0-10 New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa are planned to be published by 9 September 2026.

Some content, which is expected to start being used in schools and kura from 2027, will be released earlier – Science and Social Sciences (12 August), and Pūtaiao and Pūmanawa Tangata (26 August).

The considerable participation in the Years 0-10 curriculum consultation led to nearly 3,900 submissions on the drafts, so we’ve taken some extra time to make sure all feedback is considered carefully.

The Years 0-10 curriculum will be published on Tāhūrangi in pdf format initially, and then in full html wepages later in the year.

At the same time, we will publish “What you told us and how we responded” reports, which will summarise the feedback we received during the consultation and explain how we responded to it. We did this for English, Mathematics and Statistics, Te Reo Rangatira and Pāngarau.

A feedback theme we saw early was around the pace of change, and the Minister of Education responded to this by extending the timeframe for implementation of the Years 0-8 curriculum.   

We will have a range of supports and engagements to help schools and kura prepare to start using the final curriculum. This will include curriculum-aligned teaching resources, practical classroom materials, assessment support, professional learning and development, national engagement, webinars, and ongoing advisory support. Information about these supports will be released with the curriculum.

The final Years 11–13 curriculum will be published later this year and implemented progressively from 2028 to 2030, giving schools time to prepare and plan for change.
