What happens to your feedback on the National Curriculum?

1 May 2026

We’ve had a really good response from New Zealanders during the consultation on the frameworks and Years 0-10 content for the National Curriculum, which is made up of the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.

We’re now reviewing the feedback received through surveys, submissions and in-class trialling. This will inform the final changes we make to the frameworks and content, as well as the ways we’re supporting schools to implement the curriculum.

Our process considers all feedback fairly. Some submissions have had contributions from a large group of people, or are the result of discussion forums and workshops. We do note the numbers of people who have contributed to those to understand the level of participation in the consultation process.

The submissions and feedback are sorted into themes, sentiments and constructive criticisms for analysis. This analysis is provided to Ministry of Education writers and content experts, as well as independent reviewers who recommend changes for both curricula. Both sets of recommendations are provided to an internal QA panel to either approve, or direct further changes.

When the Ministry has approved the final version of the National Curriculum – both the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa – the Minister of Education then receives it for final approval.

The final Years 0-10 of the National Curriculum will be published on Tāhūrangi in mid-2026, alongside “What you told us” reports for the frameworks and content. The “What you told us” reports summarise the feedback we received during the consultation, and how we responded to it. We did this for English and Mathematics and Statistics.
