Webinars on phonics checks open for booking
11 February, 2025
To help with the introduction of the first ever nationally consistent phonics checks the Ministry is running webinars to take you through how to do the checks.
Webinars are available across three different days with options for a morning or afternoon session. The sessions will cover everything you need to know to get started using the checks in your classroom, as well as the opportunity to ask questions.
The checks will be instrumental in helping Year 1 teachers improve literacy learning outcomes for their students, alongside embedding the updated English learning area. The results of the phonics check may also indicate that accelerative learning supports are required to help children progress and achieve as expected.
Webinars will be held on February 14, 17 and 18 and can be accessed via Tāhūrangi:
Phonics Checks – guidance for schools (Tāhūrangi)
If you can’t attend a webinar everything you need to know to get started is available on Tāhūrangi, including a wide range of implementation supports.
You can also contact your local Ministry office for in-person support from regional Curriculum Advisors, and to help answer any questions.
