This page continues to provide the draft knowledge overview and teaching sequences for the subjects in the Phase 5 (Year 11–13) Science learning area. Consultation has now closed on this draft content for the Phase 5 (Year 11–13) Mathematics & Statistics learning area. Draft content will continue to be available for familiarisation. The current Year 11–13 Mathematics & Statistics curriculum remains in effect until the staged implementation of the new curriculum from 2028, you can still find the current New Zealand Curriculum Phase 5 content here.
Mathematics and Statistics
Across the Phase 5 Mathematics and Statistics subjects for Years 11 - 13, students will deepen knowledge and capabilities in mathematical and statistical concepts, methods, models, theorems and processes, as well as data science knowledge and practices. Students build on their earlier learning by working with more advanced mathematical and statistical ideas. They explore concepts such as algebra, calculus, probability, and data analysis in greater depth. Students chose and apply mathematical methods and models to solve problems in contextual and theoretical situations. In statistics, they work with data by collecting, analysing, and interpreting it to draw conclusions and make informed decisions. Students also develop skills in using digital tools and data science practices to explore patterns and relationships .
