English as an Additional Language
Students are taught English as an Additional Language within an explicit and clearly sequenced proficiency-based framework and appropriate literacy strategies. This develops both academic and communicative skills across listening, speaking, reading, writing, and interaction. Additional structured literacy approaches may be implemented at the school’s or teachers’ discretion.
Students are taught how to communicate confidently across every day, community, and societal contexts. They will develop fluency in reading and be able to create different text types. The goal of English as an Additional Language is to develop confident communicators who can meaningfully engage with social, academic, and employment opportunities. within Aotearoa New Zealand. This subject aims to develop students’ sense of identity and intercultural capability within the context of Aotearoa New Zealand.
