New teaching resources for New Zealand Curriculum available

10 February 2026

Secondary schools can now access a range of draft curriculum resources to help them start exploring, planning and teaching the draft New Zealand Curriculum.

As well as consulting on the draft NZC learning areas, we are seeking feedback on the draft resources developed to support teaching.

A knowledge-rich curriculum requires a different approach to planning and teaching, and we recognise that many teachers would like examples and outlines to help get them started.

We have prioritised  resources for Year 9 draft learning areas, as students in this cohort will be the first to use the updated Years 11-13 content and proposed qualifications from 2028 on.

We have also published resources to support the updated English and Mathematics & Statistics learning areas. These join the structured literacy professional development, resources and staffing for Years 0-6 English, and a range of resources  and professional development for Years 0-10 Mathematics and Statistics that we have already delivered.

New resources

This is the first time we’ve developed curriculum resources with this level of detail. They are closely aligned with the science of learning and allow teachers to use and adapt them while unpacking the knowledge-rich draft learning areas. This means you can pick them up and try them out, and use them as exemplars that help you plan and develop  your own knowledge-rich units and lessons.

For Term 1 2026, the following are available to support teachers:

Further resources coming in 2026

The Arts learning kit and updated Learning Languages supports will also become available during Term 1.

Learning kits for all Year 9 draft learning areas for Terms 2, 3, and 4 will be available at the start of each term. We’re continuing to develop resources across learning areas and years, and will release more resources regularly throughout 2026 and beyond.

These resources will be reviewed and updated to align with your feedback and the the full and final National Curriculum when it is released in mid-2026.

We take an iterative approach to all teaching resources development, and continually work to improve the support we provide to school leaders and teachers.

Feedback on the resources

We encourage you to engage with the resources and provide us with feedback, so we can continue to improve further resources to be released throughout the year. In particular, we’d like to hear how these resources support schools to deliver a year-by-year curriculum and how students respond to them.

We’re keen to hear what you think – you can provide your feedback through this survey: Feedback on learning kits.

Te Marautanga o Aotearoa

We have also developed a range of resources for Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, and we will share more about these as they become available.
