New Ready to Read Phonics Plus books out

Five new Ready to Read Phonics Plus books are out now, adding to the resources that are already available to help you bring structured approaches to literacy learning into the classroom. The new resources are designed for the Kākano | Seed phase, usually taught in the first year of schooling, and each one helps to break down different letter sounds for early literacy learning:

  • Dot to Dot – Kākano 1 (focus on m a d p o t n i s)
  • The Tin Cup – Kākano 2 (focus on l e c f u b g r h)
  • Meg Has Fun – Kākano 2 (focus on l e c f u b g r h)
  • Jam Buns – Kākano 3 (focus on k j v w y z -ck)
  • The Big Sing Song – Kākano 3 (focus on -ck th ch sh -ng)

We’ve sent physical copies of the books straight to primary schools and kura using The New Zealand Curriculum, and you can find the digital versions here:

  • A set of phonics cards for the Māhūri | Sapling phase that follow on from the existing sound cards in the Kākano | Seed phase, and the phonics cards for the Tupu | Seedling Phase – coming later this year.
  • Six new books for the Kākano | Seed phase, the Tupu | Seedling phase and the Rākau | Tree phase.
  • Seven new books for the Māhuri | Sapling phase, and the Rākau | Tree phase.
