Accelerated Maths Tutoring Trial, Years 7-8
6 Dec 2024
Schools and kura that are eligible for the new Accelerated Maths and Pāngarau Tutoring Trial for Years 7–8 are being contacted by the Ministry next week, with an invitation to apply to be a part of the trial.
The trial is being held over 12 weeks in Terms 1 and 2 next year, and aims to accelerate students’ learning so that they can access the maths/pāngarau curriculum at the appropriate level (i.e. phase three of learning). The results of the trial will be used to inform a nation–wide rollout of the programme in Term 3 2025.
The trial will see small groups of students spend 30 minutes with a teacher, teacher aide, or tutor, four times a week. Schools and kura will be funded for additional FTE to either hire tutors, or hire relievers to replace existing teachers they may want to use for the trial.
There is a range of criteria that schools and kura must meet to take part in the trial, and additional criteria for eligible students and tutors.
