Kōwhiti Whakapae oral language & literacy and maths content now available

Kōwhiti Whakapae has added to its collection of resources to help early learning kaiako strengthen teaching practice and formative assessment within the framework of Te Whāriki (Te Ara Whānui). In addition to the social & emotional learning area released last year, you can now find oral language & literacy and maths content that will help support children to grow as readers, writers, mathematicians, and life-long learners.

The new practice and progress tools have been designed, developed, and tested with kaiako and other subject matter experts to make sure that they are effective resources for kaiako looking to strengthen the way they teach and assess foundational skills.

Each area of the content is divided into four equally important parts. For maths, those are:

• Space and measurement
• Number and measurement
• Pattern and relationships
• Create and communicate maths.

For oral language & literacy, the sub areas are:

• Understanding and using language
• Emergent literacy
• Forms and functions of literacy
• Learning an additional language.

Assessment examples, as well as guides for kaiako and whānau, are also available to support formative assessment and teaching practice.
