National curriculum refresh reaches key milestone

31 October, 2024

The National Curriculum refresh has taken a big step forward today with content published online for Years 0-6 English and Years 0-8 maths learning areas in the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC) and Years 0-6 Te Reo Rangatira and Years 0-8 Pāngarau in Te Marautanga o Aotearoa (TMoA). Structured literacy, maths, Rangaranga Reo a-Tā and Rangaranga Pāngarau are linked to these learning areas and wāhanga ako.

Next steps

The Minister of Education will:

  • issue the Years 0-6 English and Te Reo Rangatira content and Years 0-8 maths and Pāngarau content in the New Zealand Gazette for required use in 2025
  • continue to gather feedback as the content is implemented and make any other changes that are required
  • issue the full Years 0-13 English, Te Reo Rangatira, maths and Pāngarau curriculum at the end of 2025 for required use in 2026. This will incorporate any amendments for Years 0-6 English and Te Reo Rangatira and Years 0-8 maths and Pāngarau in response to feedback we receive from the sector during 2025.
